The Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD) mechanism offers a very promising approach for protecting and enhancing the world’s forests. Need of a reliable baseline assessment of forest biomass and its monitoring strategies at multiple scales to ensure optimal supply – demand resource scenario and also leverage carbon. ICIMOD demonstrated continuous monitoring REDD pilot site using consistent satellite data products linking social and biophysical ground information.
